Retired and having reached the age of sixty six, good-paying jobs are difficult to find. Sometimes you can find work as an independent sales rep. but you're competing with a lot of other reps. who are trying to make a sale in this tight economy. These companies have no financial stake in you such as benefits and they fully expect to have a lot of turnover.

I employed independent sales reps. myself back when I owned a business. That's why I'm familiar with the policies of other businesses and what they can do, will do and will not do when it comes to independent sales reps. Their goal is to make sales and profits just so long as it's legal. The more independent reps. out there selling, the better the company's odds of getting some deals. So, if a former retiree like me doesn't cut it you can believe I won't be missed.
As I said, finding a good job was not working out. I couldn't land a salaried or hourly position to save my soul. And that was before the bottom fell out of the housing market, the stock market tanked and everyone else began losing his or her job. I knew Id have to come up with something original. I was not going to flip burgers or stand in a lobby saying, "welcome to WalMart."
So, I did what I'd done as a younger man. I got busy. I took a vitamin, screwed up my courage and put my brain into overdrive. I soon discovered that a person could put himself or herself into business on the Internet with little or no money at all. I just needed a computer (I had that) and a plan.
I found a couple of really good companies that I could affiliate myself with and from which I could make a very good income . I also discovered some really great ways to promote my businesses, too. Some are completely free. Some cost me a little but the money I make more than offsets the expense. And by the way it is a legitimate business expense that can be deducted from my taxes.
I have customers from all fifty states. I also draw from Canada and the entire free world. The fact that products and services are being provided is a real plus because it means people other than myself are working and making a living. My efforts on the Internet cause this to be a win/win situation.
Another benefit of my online business is that I don't have to work at it for 8-hours a day. Some times I do but not usually. Also, as long as I have an Internet connection I can run my business from literally anywhere. Even sitting under a palm tree with an umbrella drink just so long as I have an online connection.
So, you see even at 66 I make a good living in spite of a scary economy. I can travel. I can stay at home. I can do whatever I want. Am I bragging? No, I'm just telling it like it is. How secure is your job? Do you still have one? Does my lifestyle appeal to you?
Envy by itself is non-productive. Courage linked with an idea can be the first steps in creating your personal cash generating business. Mine just happened to be an Internet affiliate business. Perhaps yours could be, too.
